The introduction of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators has significantly reduce the rate of death in patient with heart arrhythmias disease

An implantable cardioverter-defibrillators or cardioverter-interventional splint is a medical device that uses the concept of using electrical energy from the patient's body to alter the pumping action of the heart in order to stop a heart attack. The device is thus capable of correcting many life-threatening heart arrhythmias caused by defective cardiac rhythms. Implantable cardioverter is very effective and saves lives every day. Their introduction to the medical field gave doctors another tool to fight heart diseases.

Patients suffering from cardiomyopathy require additional treatment than normal patients. Cardiomyopathy is a medical condition wherein the heart rhythm is defective resulting in irregular contractions of the heart muscles. These defective heart rhythms result in irregular heartbeat and abnormal heart rhythms.
The implantable cardioverter-defibrillators for heart failure provide additional advantages over other cardiac rehabilitation methods. The main advantage of having an implanted cardiac defibrillator is that patients can be induced into a state of deep sleep using stimulus waves. This stimulation enables the patients to achieve an increased cardiac output that is required to reverse the defective heart rhythm. In addition to this, the implanted device does not require any cardiac psychology training unlike the ICD and pacing methods.
These defibrillators are used in hospitals to treat patients with ICD. Patients who are treated with these devices undergo cardiac monitoring before, during, and after procedures and have the option to opt for implantable cardioverter-defibrillators that need no invasive procedure
Implantable cardioverter-defibrillators are also used for the treatment of patients with cardiac arrest, sleep apnea, severe hypertension, uncontrolled hypertension, flotrol-type conditions, atrial fibrillation, and arrhythmia. There are studies that indicate that these implants increase the survival rate of patients who need to undergo cardiac surgery compared to those who receive standard treatments.
Recently, Abbott announced it has received CE Mark for the new Gallant™ implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) devices
