The ingredient behenyl alcohol helps reduce the appearance of clear cosmetic products

Behenyl Alcohol Market

1-Docosanol, or behenyl alcohol, is a big fatty straight-chain alcohol. It is frequently used in cosmetic and skin care products as an emollient, emulsifier, and thickener. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR), which evaluates specific chemical compounds as they are used in cosmetic products, has determined that behenyl alcohol is safe. Behenyl alcohol is safe to use in cosmetics and personal care products, according to the CIR Expert Panel. However, like most preservatives, benzyl alcohol can irritate the skin and cause itching in some people.

Some of the most prevalent cosmetic components, such as lanolin, are typically derived from plants. Lanolin, on the other hand, is used in some of the more affordable body and bath products due to its low cost. Behenyl alcohol is a unique type of alcohol. This chemical is usually generated from natural sources such as animal fats, petroleum byproducts, and other petroleum byproducts. Lotions, creams, face creams, and moisturisers all include it. Its function is identical to that of mineral oil, a popular emulsifying agent in cosmetics.

However, the density of this fatty acid is much higher than that of mineral oil which is what makes it suitable for a cosmetic product as a thickener and preservative. Behenyl alcohol helps the skin to retain moisture, improving the hydrated look of the skin. It also has many benefits to the texture and sensory feel of products. There are many cosmetic formulations available in the market which contain behenyl alcohol. This compound is considered as safe for general usage, but there are still some contraindications involved.

As an opacifying agent, behenyl alcohol is used to reduce the clear or transparent appearance of cosmetic products. Moreover, behenyl Alcohol has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a pharmaceutical antiviral agent.
