Smart Transportation Is an Advanced Form of Technology That Focuses On Various Traffic and Driving-Related Issues and Enhance the Experience of Commuters

Smart transportation systems

Smart transportation systems are used in various regions of the world, especially in regions such as the U.S., Singapore, and Italy. A smart transportation system is a technologically advanced program that aims to offer various services related to traffic management, such as intelligent real-time traffic information, driver scheduling, vehicle telematics, traffic signal management, automated traffic cameras, real-time GPS tracking, real-time bus schedule generation, automated freight management, real-time bus route planning, etc., and enable passengers to be safer, organized, and make more efficient use of existing transportation networks. Smart transportation systems are being developed continuously by transportation systems integrators in several countries around the world. It is predicted that shortly, every vehicle on the road will have been fitted with some sort of technology to make travel easier and more comfortable, and to avoid traffic jams.
Traffic in a smart transportation system is managed by a computer-based system that processes information in a way that the network of streets and routes can be predicted at all times. The vehicles themselves communicate with the system if they encounter any obstacles or other problems along the way. Once a solution is found, traffic can again be distributed according to each driver's assignment. Thus, all traffic is handled smoothly and drivers can get back to their jobs without worrying about traffic jams or delays. In regions such as the U.S., there is always traffic on the road and commuters get delayed to reach their destination, in such scenarios, smart transportation will alert the commuters beforehand and help them reach on time. For instance, according to Texas A&M Transportation Institute, commuters in the U.S. waste around 54 hours yearly getting stuck in traffic.
According to some experts, smart transportation will help to reduce traffic congestion, improve fuel economy, improve safety and reduce costs. Some of the benefits of smart transportation include, longer commute time, less vehicle downtime, fewer traffic accidents, and improved customer satisfaction. A smart transportation system not only provides drivers with real-time information and real-time control over the vehicle, but also with safety features like anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic control system, etc., and with features that provide comforts such as air conditioning, seat belts, autopilot, and other options.
