How Thermal Barrier Coatings Enhance the Capabilities of Metal Surface in Extreme Temperature? Explained

Metals are the most versatile materials that are used in a variety of circumstances. Many times metals are required to work under extreme temperature, without losing their properties. Thermal barrier coatings are specialty coatings comprising of advanced materials systems applied to a metallic surface that operate at elevated temperatures. This thermal barrier is usually applied on a metal surface, like stainless steel. It is also used to prevent heat absorption by some metal-based materials. Examples of these include polyurethane foams and liquid crystalline products. These are also sometimes applied to ceramic or plexiglass surfaces.
Thermal barrier coatings used in a variety of industry verticals including aerospace, automotive, stationary power plants, and other end-use verticals. In outdoor applications, the main problem faced by the contractor is to prepare the exterior surfaces for the installation. If the contractor is experienced then, the preparation can be done by using concrete, plywood, or other similar material. If the contractor is not experienced, then it is best to use polyurethane or asphalt. Coatings on vehicles are the most challenging application since the temperatures during the summer are very high and the conditions are very harsh. This is where the use of a combination of aluminum oxide is the best.

Thermal barrier coatings on underground pipe systems require the application of a thin layer of the metal oxide or the concrete coating that can withstand the effects of weather, pressure, and temperature changes. The main reason behind this is to be able to provide good resistance to the weather and to underground pipes that can experience temperature changes due to natural variations in temperature. Coatings for electrical and electronic appliances include the application of a coat of paint to protect the exterior from moisture and corrosion due to the effect of the environment in the rooms. The application is especially important for the inside of the room since they tend to get wet during the summers and need protection from the rain and exposure to moisture. Many companies in Europe are focused on synthesizing novel coating methods, in order to enhance the metallic properties of the material.
