Cellular Rubber Finds Application in Various Industries for Sealing, Isolating, Confining or Shock Absorption

Cellular Rubber market

Cellular rubber (sometimes called foam rubber) refers to rubber which has been made by using a foam manufacturing technique. It is a light material and is compressible. It is manufactured in accordance with the expansion process using gas-developing agents. Cellular rubber is a type of foam rubber. This means that it has a cell structure. This is in contrast to normal rubber, which has no cell structure. Most commercial foam rubber is produced from expanded polystyrene beads. This rubber can be made into sheets, balls and squish. Cellular rubber is used for sealing, isolating, confining or shock absorption.

One of the most common materials used in cellular rubber sheet manufacturing is injection molding. Injection molding involves creating a mold from liquid foam. After the mold has formed, it is pulled apart piece by piece until the foam rubber sheet is formed. Some foam rubber sheets are then manually rolled out and cut into desired shapes. These are known as molded rolls. Roll forming is also used to manufacture foam parts such as bumpers, shock absorbers, neck support fittings, and handles.

Many cellular rubber sheets are made with a combination of two or more materials. The first material is the flexible foam rubber or flexible foam materials. The second material used is the rigid foam rubber or solid materials. The main difference between the two is the thickness. Flexible foams are usually less thick than rigid foams and they are shaped like a bar. They are stiffer than rigid foams but less than rubbers. This makes them easier to cut and shape. When the sheets are thicker than rubbers, the product is referred to as a visco-elastic foam rubber sheet. One type of cellular rubber that can be found is closed cell rubber sponge sheets. These sheets are made by subjecting a foaming chemicals to high heats and pressure. A reaction occurs with the polyols allowing them to form sheets of foam rubber. These sheets can be used in a variety of manufacturing processes.

Air bubbles are another commonly used manufacturing process for cellular rubber. There are two types of foam rubber; open and closed cell. Closed cell foam rubber has less ability to expand and contract when exposed to air while open cell foam rubber expands more readily. A popular method for expanding closed cell foam rubber is by exposing it to an excess amount of gas bubbles.

Polyurethane sponge acts as an insulator making it similar to cellular rubber. Polyurethane is commonly used as a plastic additive. It is also a cure and curing agent in industries including pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals and petroleum-based products. Its wide range of uses makes polyurethane sponge a flexible but versatile product. Cellular rubber provides good insulating properties. Foam rubber is combined with other foam materials for a more complete insulation result. Foam rubber is usually blended with other high performance air materials such as gels, dry foam and gasket materials.
